How To Network Market: Stop  Before you buy any Leads!Whether you claim to be doing network marketing or multi-level marketing, your business is about leads. I know some people, especially in my company, that believe that they can succeed with just a few leads. It took me a while to realize that without leads nothing happens in network marketing. Leads are the lifeblood of your business.

When I first started in Network Marketing, I did what everyone does. I made a list of my warm market, planned a course of action with my up-line, and started calling them. By the end of two weeks I was activated and ready to make money. But now what? I had gone through my list and had no more leads. That meant that I had all my hopes and dreams dependent on the two people that I had sponsored to go through their warm market, and so on and so forth. Network Marketing does not work that way. You have to live by example. You have to sponsor people, and in order to sponsor people, you have to generate leads. So out of desperation I picked up the phone book and started calling businesses. Actually it was a big joke between me and my senior partner. My names list was huge, and after several weeks of that not working, we decided to go out and visit the businesses. It would be harder for them to say no if they saw our bright shiny faces, determination and genius (LOL). And although we did end up sponsoring people, our cost per distributor was negative. So out of desperation we turned to buying leads, and I’ll share with you what I learned. (I have not bought any more leads lately as I am learning to develop my own qualified leads.) But for those that are in the market to buy leads, here is some advice:


  1. They don’t know how you got their number, and some of them are even nervous that you have it, as if you were a mass murderer that was going to assault them over the phone.
  2. Realize that there is a lot of hype involved with the companies that sell you the “qualified leads.” Most of the leads probably filled out a survey to get a free Ipad (or some other scam offer that these companies use.) I have bought leads from many different companies. Leads that cost $5 each and leads that cost 25 cents each and they all seemed to be the same.
  3. Expect lots of rejection- I have had countless numbers of phones hung up in my ear.
  4. Expect that most of them will be unemployed or on disability.
  5. Most people that say they will call you back won’t. Many people that make appointments cancel. Some people will stand you up no matter how much posture you have. It’s all par for the course. It’s the nature of the beast.

But all is not lost! It’s a numbers game. I have sponsored people from bought leads that I still work with today, and they have led me to some incredible distributors. So just do it!


  1. Be forewarned- the above is just to prepare you. The people that are selling you the leads want you to think that they are all roses, but they don’t tell you that some roses can have some big thorns.
  2. There is no perfect script, just perfect attitude. It’s all about your mindset.
  3. Are you prepared for the rejections? You need to be able to recover quickly and move on. Let it roll off you. Learn from your mistakes, and move on.
  4. You are interviewing them for your business, not the other way around.
  5. It’s your call, so own it.
  6. Have a goal in mind, but don’t stay attached to the outcome.
