Are the Gurus telling you the Truth?Have you ever wondered if there was a way to grow your business without much effort put into it. Letting your unconscious guide your life. The funny thing is that we already do this, the problem is that are unconscious minds are mostly untrained and leading us to mediocrity. Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking, by Malcolm Gladwell. Over the next couple of post I will be giving you what I learned from this book so that when you apply it to your life and business it can grow bigger and better with “less” effort.
Imagine being able to make quick accurate decisions in the blink of an eye. I am always interested in books that give an insight into how the human mind works. After all this would be the number one skill to succeed in business, and especially in the relationship business. I don’t remember how I came across the book, but it was very insightful and extremely interesting. However, Malcolm falls short on his promise of teaching us the exercises necessary to help us make quicker, better decisions. I read chapter by chapter, in the hopes that the next chapter would deliver on that promise. In the end, there was only theory. That said,this is the first point that we can all take and apply in our business:

 

Concentrate on skill, not technique.

When asking so called “Gurus” in your business how they do what they do, don’t expect that their answer is correct. Many experts in their respective fields do not know how they accomplish what they accomplish, and when asked they come up with reasons that are not necessarily correct. Some studies suggest that when we are asked about our reasoning and thinking, especially things that are “second nature,” “talents,” “or natural,” that these ideas are behind closed doors of the mind and we really cannot explain them. There are times when we demand an explanation when an explanation is not really possible, so we come up with some reasoning that seems to explain it.
